The brand-new posh and punk musical Head Over Heels, which began previews June 23, officially opened July 26 at the Hudson Theatre.
Featuring an original book by Jeff Whitty adapted by James Magruder, Head Over Heels uses the music of the all-female The Go-Go's to tell an updated take on Philip Sidney’s Arcadia. Audiences will hear such Go-Go’s hits as “We Got the Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” and the title tune, as well as original Go-Go’s member Belinda Carlisle’s singles “Mad About You” and “Heaven Is a Place on Earth.”
The cast features Jeremy Kushnier (Paramour), Rachel York (Disaster!), Alexandra Socha (Spring Awakening), Peppermint (RuPaul’s Drag Race), Andrew Durand (Spring Awakening), Taylor Iman Jones (Groundhog Day), Bonnie Milligan (the national tour of Kinky Boots), and Tom Alan Robbins (The Lion King).
Peppermint is making history as the first performer who identifies as a trans woman to originate a principal role on Broadway. It's a historic milestone for trans and non-binary artists, who have spoken out about under representation on stage and screen.
Head Over Heels is directed by Michael Mayer and choreographed by Spencer Liff. The production has scenic and puppet design by Tony Award nominee Julian Crouch, costume design by Academy Award and Tony Award nominee Arianne Phillips, lighting design by four-time Tony Award winner Kevin Adams, sound design by Tony Award nominee Kai Harada, and projection design by Andrew Lazarow.
