It will replace Into the Hoods, another show that began its life on the Edinburgh Fringe, which has just extended its run for the second time to Aug. 30.
Eurobeat celebrates the annual European song contest, and re-creates the voting done there by panels from each country by inviting the theatre audience to vote on their favorites, too. Audience members are each allocated to one of the ten competing countries as they enter the theatre and, as with Eurovision, the audience votes for their favorite contestants via text message (although with this show, the voting is genuine). The competing countries, in order of their appearance here, are Italy, Estonia, Iceland, the UK, Hungary, Russia, Ireland, Greece and Sweden.
The show, written by Craig Christie and Andrew Patterson, will star Les Dennis and Mel Giedroyc, who previously did the show both in Edinburgh and on the subsequent U.K. national tour earlier this year.
Dennis is best known for his TV appearances, presenting "Family Fortunes" and "Extras." He has also had guest roles in "New Street Law," "Holby City" and "The Bill." Recent theatre includes Marlon Brando's Corset and Certified Male on the Edinburgh fringe, and A Servant of Two Masters directed by Michael Bogdanov. His autobiography, "Must The Show Go On?," was published last year.
Giedroyc is half of the TV and radio comedy duo, Mel and Sue, alongside Sue Perkins. After a few years writing for French & Saunders, they hosted a lunchtime show on Channel 4 called "Light Lunch" (and the early evening version, "Late Lunch"). Giedroyc has also been a presenter on Channel 4's RI:SE. She narrated "Celebrity Driving School" in 2003. Some other ventures include being a contestant on the 2005 series of "The Games," co-starring in the 2005 BBC1 sitcom "Blessed" and co-presenting Richard Hammond's "O'Clock Show" on ITV1. Mel was the sixth student to be voted out of "Comic Relief Does Fame Academy" and was a celebrity judge on the 2007 edition of "Making Your Mind Up."
