News Intimate Apparel and Caroline, or Change Among Winners of 2004 AUDELCO Awards George C. Wolfe, Lynn Nottage, Tonya Pinkins and Chuck Cooper are among the winners of the 32nd Annual Vivian Robinson/AUDELCO Recognition Awards for Excellence in Black Theatre, announced Nov. 15.

AUDELCO (Audience Development Committee) is a non-profit organization established in 1973 to generate recognition, understanding and awareness of arts in the African-American communities. The awards focus on New York-area theatre.

The award ceremony was held at the Aaron Davis Hall, West 135th and Convent Avenue in Harlem.

Lynn Nottage, nominated twice in the Playwright category for Intimate Apparel and Fabulation, won for the former, which was produced by Roundabout Theatre Company in 2004 and later played a Los Angels run. Intimate Apparel also won in the category of Dramatic Production of the Year.

Caroline, or Change, which started at The Public Theater Off-Broadway, jumped to Broadway and is now playing a Los Angeles run, won AUDELCO Awards for Musical Production of the Year, Sound Design (Jon Weston), Director/Musical Production (George C. Wolfe), Outstanding Performance in a Musical/Female (Tonya Pinkins) Outstanding Performance in a Musical/Male (Chuck Cooper) and Outstanding Musical Director (Linda Twine).

Sarah Jones won in the category of Solo Performance for her Off-Broadway show, Bridge and Tunnel, which is aimed for Broadway in 2005. Actor André De Shields won for his work in Dream on Monkey Mountain for Classical Theatre of Harlem.
