PlayCo celebrates the official opening of Stefano Massini's Intractable Woman: A Theatrical Memo on Anna Politkovskaya, a new play inspired by the life and writing of assassinated journalist Anna Politkovskaya, September 23. The production, directed by Lee Sunday Evans, plays 122CC, located at 150 1st Avenue, New York.

In Intractable Woman, Politkovskaya is portrayed by three actors: Nadine Malouf (Oh My Sweet Land; queens), Nicole Shalhoub (China Doll; The Clean House), and Stacey Yen (Enjoy; Miles for Mary).

Journalist and human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya was murdered in Moscow in 2006 after spending the previous seven years exposing government suppression and the atrocities of war in Chechnya. Originally staged in Europe as part of the 2007–2008 season, the play continues to illuminate the importance of journalism in holding governments accountable.

The play is translated by Paula Wing; performances began September 13 and continue through October 14.

The production features set design by Marsha Ginsberg, costume design by Junghyun Georgia Lee, lighting design by Masha Tsimring, and sound design by Stowe Nelson. Laura Smith is the production stage manager, and Matt Cecchini is the production manager.
