Goethe's play Iphigenie on Tauris -- based on an old drama by Euripides -- is a triumph of humanity over barbarity. Klaus Michael Gruber has directed the play at the Schaubuhne with a team of very prominent actors. The set, by Gilles Aillaud evokes a peaceful atmosphere on Mediterranean island, where Angela Winkler plays the utterly honest Iphegenia. Martin Wuttke plays her brother Orestes. Ulrich Wildgruber is the barbarian Thoas, who turns into a loving man and overcomes his brutality.
