News Irene Sharaff Award Winners in Costume Design Announced by TDF Freddy Wittop, Constance Hoffman, Barbara Matera and Aline Bernstein will each receive 2001 Theatre Development Fund (TDF) Irene Sharaff Awards it was announced today. Freddy Wittop, Constance Hoffman, Barbara Matera and Aline Bernstein will each receive 2001 Theatre Development Fund (TDF) Irene Sharaff Awards it was announced today. The Irene Sharaff Awards will be presented on Fri., April 6 at 6 PM. The ceremony will take place at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel.

One of the leading costume design awards in the industry, the Irene Sharaff awards will be distributed as follows:

Freddy Wittop - Lifetime Achievement Award
Constance Hoffman - Young Master Award
Barbara Matera - Artisan Award
Aline Bernstein - Posthumous Award

Freddy Wittop, the costume designer who won a Tony Award for creating the parade of "Sunday clothes," and more, in Hello, Dolly!, died Feb. 2 after a brief illness, according to a spokesman for the Theatre Development Fund's Irene Sharaff Awards.

According to TDF, "the awardees are selected by the TDF Irene Sharaff Awardee Advisory Committee, which is comprised of many leading members of the theatrical costume design community. They are: Gregg Barnes, Suzy Benzinger, Lana Fritz, Jane Greenwood, Rodney Gordon, Willa Kim, Gary Jones, Kitty Leech, Carol Luiken, Martin Pakledinaz, Patrick Wiley, Sally Ann Parsons, Robert Perdziola, Gregory Poplyk, Carrie Robbins, Ann Roth, Woody Shelp and Scott Traugott." Through its Costume Collection, TDF "maintains an extensive inventory of more than 75,000 costumes and accessories for rental at discounted cost by any not-for-profit theatre company, opera company, university, college or school. The collection, located in a 17,000 square foot loft at 601 W. 26 St. In New York City, services "1,000 productions per year in 38 states across the country."
