Irish Repertory Theatre's musical interpretation of Dion Boucicault's Victorian melodrama The Streets of New York ends Jan. 20 after the new musical, enhanced by twelve new songs by the company's artistic director Charlotte Moore, extended for an extra month. Streets of New York opened Nov. 18.

Set in mid-1800's New York, The Streets of New York pits good and virtuous siblings Lucy and Paul Fairweather against the evil machinations of Gideon Bloodgood. Bloodgood robbed the youngsters of their fortune, but they're determined to survive. Thanks to the kindly Puffy family and a former employee of Bloodgood, Paul may win back his good name and Lucy may claim the love of Mark Livingstone, one of the most prominent sons of New York. Boucicault also penned The Shaughraun, which proved a hit for Irish Rep in 1998.

Moore, who also directs The Streets of New York, has helmed 23 Irish Rep productions, including recent revivals of A Life, The Hostage, Don Juan in Hell and The Irish and How They Got That Way. She has been nominated for two Tony Awards, the Outer Critics Circle Award, the Drama Desk Award and the Irish American Top 100 Irish Award.

Joshua Park (The Adventures of Tom Sawyer) stars as Paul Fairweather with Danielle Ferland (Into the Woods) as Dixie Puffy and Ciaran O'Reilly (The Irish and How They Got That Way) as Bloodgood's former clerk, Brendan Badger. Also in the cast are Peter Cormican (Mr. Puffy), Ray DeMattis (Gideon Bloodgood), Tery Donnelly (Mrs. Puffy), Margaret Hall (Mrs. Susan Fairweather), Michael Halling (Mark Livingstone), Donna Kane (Lucy Fairweather), John Keating (Edwards), Christopher Lynn (Captain Patrick Fairweather/The Duke of Calcavella) and Kristin Maloney (Alida Bloodgood).

Tickets are $35-$40. The Irish Repertory Theatre is located at 132 West 22nd Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. For reservations, call (212) 727-2737. Irish Repertory Theatre is on the web at http://www.irishrepertorytheatre.com. — By Christine Ehren
