Reports have swirled that "Into the Woods" and "Chicago" director Rob Marshall has expressed interest in bringing Follies to the big screen. The past and present collide throughout the action of the musical, which explores the dreams and disappointments of its central characters.

Streep, who starred as The Witch in the film adaptation of "Into the Woods," may be attached to star, but informed the Daily Mail that the film project would be a long way off.

Harold Prince co-directed the legendary 1971 original production of Follies with the late Michael Bennett, who also choreographed. Sondheim's Tony Award-winning score, a mix of pastiche and complex, character-driven material features "I'm Still Here," "Broadway Baby," "Losing My Mind," "The Right Girl" and "Too Many Mornings."
