The project features a new book by Ken Ludwig, a Tony Award winner for Crazy for You and Lend Me a Tenor. The musical, which is in development with Ambassador Theatre Group, will feature classics from the film and additional standards from Berlin's catalogue.

Mitchell, whose works include Kinky Boots, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, La Cage aux Folles and Hairspray, will direct and is also expected to choreograph.

According to the Daily Mail, Mitchell's West End Scoundrels star Alex Gaumond will participate in the Easter Parade workshops along with Dan Burton and Sophie Isaac.

A previous stage incarnation of Easter Parade, with a book by Peter Stone and Phillip Oesterman, was in development in the 1990s with Tommy Tune and Sandy Duncan attached.
