The Off-Broadway production at the Public's Newman Theater, which has been given numerous extensions through May 3, opened to critical acclaim Feb. 17. Despite buzz that the musical would cancel its extension and take the Richard Rodgers (after If/Then plays its final performance March 22), producers, creatives and cast members have remained silent.

Representatives for The Public Theater sent out an email invitation to the press Feb. 23, inviting them to a "special gathering to celebrate this new musical" Feb. 24 at 3 PM in The Public Theater lobby at 425 Lafayette Street. The cast and creative team will be available for interviews and photos, and a news release will be distributed at that time. A Broadway press agent was attached to the email invitation.
Representatives for The Public and the show's writer and star, Miranda, did not reply to Playbill.com's request for comment.
It was previously reported that the musical may hit Broadway in time for this year's Tony Awards and that the producers (led by Jeffrey Seller, who produced Miranda's Tony-winning In the Heights) have the right to cancel the extension at Off-Broadway's Public.
The new musical reunites the award-winning In the Heights team. Tony nominee Thomas Kail is at the helm, with choreography from Tony Award winner Andy Blankenbuehler. Miranda, who wrote the show's book, music and lyrics, stars in the title role. Previews began Jan. 20, prior to an official opening Feb. 17.
Inspired by the book "Alexander Hamilton" by Ron Chernow, the musical incorporates historical figures such as George Washington, Aaron Burr, James Madison and Thomas Jefferson. Miranda previously performed a song from Hamilton for President Obama and the First Family at the White House in 2009.
The Public and TodayTix will continue to offer "Hamilton for a Hamilton" ($10), furthering the innovative new partnership with TodayTix and The Public's ongoing commitment to making theatre accessible to everyone. During the run of Hamilton, a pair of tickets will be available for each performance for $10 per ticket. The lottery will begin each day at midnight for the performance that same day, and winners will be notified three to four hours before show time. Winners will make the payment in the TodayTix app and collect the tickets at the box office.
