Rubberville, a comedy inspired by the early 80's heavy metal culture, will begin performances July 15 at Off-Off-Broadway's Access Theatre for a run through July 25. Rubberville's writer Chris Talbott co-directs with Ian Rosenberg.
A tale of a Midwestern white ghetto suddenly rocked by the emergence of a rock-prophet/modern day Joan of Arc, Rubberville features burnout metalheads, beginner Satanists, alcoholic single moms and drunks who blast Pink Floyd till the cops come. A play with music, Talbott wrote the piece's lyrics with Philip Van Scotter providing the music.
In the cast are Amanda Ansorge, Linas Benedictas, Cristy Candler, Sanjit De Silva, Gioia Marchese, Van Scooter, Ari Vena, Jeffrey White and Mary Wigmore.
Designing Rubberville are Hillevi Loven, Heidi Brant and Shane Valentino.
Tickets are $10. For reservations, call (212) 726-2159. The Access Theatre is located at 380 Broadway, two blocks below Canal Street. -- By Christine Ehren
