Since its inception in 2011, Playbill Travel's series Broadway on the High Seas has gained a reputation as the ultimate destination for theatre-lovers with a thirst for unique, intimate travel experiences. Over the years, the ship has been populated with Broadway's biggest stars, including two-time Tony Award winner Patti LuPone, Tony winner Brian Stokes Mitchell, two-time Tony winner Andrea Martin, ten-time Tony winner Tommy Tune, Tony winner Laura Benanti, Tony nominee Norm Lewis and many more.
Broadway on the High Seas 6, which launched from San Juan, Puerto Rico, Feb. 12 bound for St. Barts, Barbados, St. Lucia and the U.S. Virgin Islands, is no exception. The 296 passengers aboard the privately chartered Silversea's Silver Wind revels in performances and events with stars like Christine Ebersole, Liz Callaway, Tony Yazbeck, Laura Osnes, Lewis Black, Christine Pedi and Karen Mason.
Sprinkled amongst the passenger manifesto are some surprise guest stars, including two-time Screen Actors Guild award winner Bryan Batt, television and Broadway star Mark Linn-Baker, and two-time Tony Award nominee and frequent Broadway on the High Seas guest Howard McGillin.
These talents of Broadway on the High Seas sent a few "postcards" from the cruise. Here's a look!
Karen Mason: "This is more fun than I could've imagined. It is so great to be on a ship with people who love theatre, love musicals and seem to love all of us performers. Nothing could be better!"
John McDaniel: "Oh my God, it's so beautiful here. I wish you all were here!"
Howard McGillin: "It's spectacular. We're only three days in, and it's just fantastic. We don't want it to end."
Mark Linn-Baker: "It's very rare to have this high level of talent. It's been spectacular."
Lewis Black: "I'm just thrilled that I have not suffered seasickness. There is no better place to celebrate Valentine's Day than thousands of miles away!"
Broadway on the High Seas trips are first-class and the destinations exotic. But guests return to Playbill Travel trips time and time again because of the unique vacation experience they can't get anywhere else. Three-time Playbill traveler, Michael O'Sullivan of Ontario, Canada, says, "I have had the good fortune to travel to many beautiful places with wonderful people from many walks of life, and I can tell you the Playbill trips I participated in rank up at the top. The destinations were brilliantly chosen. The service from start to finish was first-class. Food, superb. And the talent! I can’t say enough about the Broadway stars we traveled with. They were warm, inclusive, approachable, social and so very human in every way."
Two-time Playbill travel entertainer Brian Stokes Mitchell echoes the sentiment, "The most fun part for me is the enthusiasm of all the theatre-lovers who come along. It's like being in summer camp for grown-ups — not just for the guests, but for the performers as well."
The next Broadway on the High Seas adventure will set sail September 21 bound for the Italian Riviera. Travelers aboard Broadway on the High Seas 7 will share the ship with two-time Tony-winning legend Chita Rivera, two-time Tony winner Michael Cerveris, Tony and Olivier Award nominee Ramin Karimloo, Tony and four-time Drama Desk Award nominee Stephanie J. Block, Drama Desk Award winner Andréa Burns, Tony and Drama Desk Award nominee Jeremy Jordan and Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award nominee Lindsay Mendez.
