Chocolate lovers will get a taste of the new family-friendly opera The Golden Ticket, based on Roald Dahl's "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," at the New York Chocolate Show this week.

Presented as part of the KidZone programming, excerpts from the opera will be presented Oct. 30-Nov. 1 in the Metropolitan Pavilion four times each day. The Golden Ticket, commissioned by American Lyric Theater, features a score by Peter Ash and libretto by Donald Sturrock.

The opera is set to make its debut at the Opera Theatre of Saint Louis June 13-26, 2010. OTSL artistic director James Robinson will stage the work about the infamous candy man and the various children who tour his magical factory. The full production will have scenic design by Bruno Schwengl and costumes by Martin Pakledinaz.

American Lyric Theatre is also holding an online chocolate auction to support development of The Golden Ticket. The Metropolitan Pavilion is located at 125 W. 18th Street.
