News Jack Hofsiss to Direct Play by Iraqi-American Dramatist, Feb. 6-15 At a time when Iraq is constantly in the news, Queens Theatre in the Park offers something not only timely, but unusual—not just a play which addresses the war in Iraq, but one by an Iraqi-American playwright.

Tony-winning director Jack Hofsiss will stage Nine Parts of Desire by Heather Raffo. The play will run Feb. 6-15. The piece is inspired by live interviews and the events of the last 10 years "on both sides of the Iraqi border." Raffo plays several of the characters, including Layal, an artist in Baghdad who courts controversy by painting female nudes, while sleeping with senior members of the Hussein regime. Other characters include the overweight Amal, who catches her husband in bed with her best friend, and a pregnant female doctor who sees babies born with two heads or none, the victims of a uranium-fed cancer spreading across the country.

Nine Parts was presented at the 2003 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Tickets are $22.  Queens Theatre in the Park is located in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, just off exit 9E of the Grand Central Parkway (near Shea Stadium & The US Tennis Center).  Call (718) 760-0064.
