Tony Award-winning director Jack O'Brien will be honored with the John Houseman Award Oct. 24 at the Acting Company's annual Black & White Masquerade Ball.

Current Fiddler on the Roof star Harvey Fierstein will emcee the evening at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel's Starlight Roof, and Rosemary Harris will present O'Brien with his award, which honors "commitment to the development of classical actors and a national audience for the theatre." Performers for the star-studded evening will include Dirty Rotten Scoundrels' Joanna Gleason, Hairspray's Darlene Love and A Naked Girl on the Appian Way's Matthew Morrison. Others scheduled to attend include David and Helen Gurley Brown, Richard Easton, Harriet Harris, Michael Hayden, Dana Ivey, Swoosie Kurtz, Jerry Mitchell, Brian Murray, Brian F. O'Byrne, Don Scardino, Marian Seldes, Marc Shaiman, Michael Stuhlbarg and Scott Wittman.

Jack O'Brien won Tony Awards for his direction of Hairspray and Henry IV. He was also Tony-nominated for his work on Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Invention of Love, The Full Monty, Two Shakespearean Actors and Porgy and Bess. O'Brien has been the artistic director of the Old Globe Theatre, San Diego, since 1981.

The Starlight Roof of the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel is located at 301 Park Avenue, between 49th and 50th Streets. The evening is set to begin at 7 PM.

The Acting Company, America's foremost touring repertory theatre and arts education program, was honored in 2003 with the Tony for Excellence in Theater.
