Actor James Brolin, who is married to the Oscar-winning actor and director, told Extra TV.com, "I don’t know if it’s green-lit yet, but it’s very close. It’s got to happen."

Streisand recently caused a commotion when she posted a photo of herself with Lady Gaga, who had been rumored to play stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, John Travolta, Kelly Preston and Ryan Murphy, the producer of "Glee." About that photo Brolin said, "That was just a dinner. You know, we’re out in the Malibu area and Gaga, she’s close by and John’s an old friend."

During her concert tour, Streisand performed several songs from Gypsy to acclaim, including "Rose's Turn." Gypsy has music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Arthur Laurents penned the book.

Broadway Roses have included Ethel Merman, Angela Lansbury, Tyne Daly, Linda Lavin, Bernadette Peters and Patti LuPone. Rosalind Russell starred in the Hollywood film; Bette Midler played Rose on TV.
