News James Earl Jones Honored at L.A. Tony Party June 6 Tony Award winner James Earl Jones will be honored with The Julie Harris Award for Lifetime Achievement at the annual Tony Awards Party in Los Angeles.

On June 6, Henry Winkler will present Jones — a two-time Tony Award winner for his performances in The Great White Hope and Fences — with the Julie Harris Award on behalf of Hollywood’s theatrical community at the eighth annual Tony Awards Party. The Producers' Jason Alexander will host the West Coast celebration at the Skirbill Center, which benefits Aid for AIDS and The Actors’ Fund of America. The event begins at 3:30 PM with cocktails and a silent auction, followed by dinner and a live telecast of the 58th Annual Tony Awards at 5 PM. The awards presentation to Jones begins at 8 PM; previous recipients of the Julie Harris Award include Rita Moreno, Gwen Verdon, Charles Durning, Tyne Daly, Lauren Bacall and Carol Channing.

James Earl Jones made his Broadway debut in the 1958 production of Sunrise at Campobello. In addition to his Tony-winning performances in The Great White Hope and Fences, he has also appeared on Broadway in The Cool World, Infidel Caesar, Danton's Death, A Hand Is on the Gate, Les Blancs, The Iceman Cometh, Of Mice and Men, Paul Robeson, A Lesson From Aloes, Othello and "MASTER HAROLD" . . . and the boys. Jones was also Oscar-nominated for his role in the film version of "The Great White Hope."
