The film, based on Robert Egan and Kurt Pitzer's book "Eating With the Enemy: How I Waged Peace with North Korea From My BBQ Shack in Hackensack," will cast Gandolfini as Egan, who owned a barbecue restaurant in Hackensack and served as a liaison between the United States and North Korea.
Gandolfini will co-executive produce the project through his Attaboy Productions and Tribeca Productions.
A three-time Emmy Award winner for his work on "The Sopranos" and a Tony Award nominee for God of Carnage, he has also appeared on Broadway in On the Waterfront and A Streetcar Named Desire. Additional screen credits include "Welcome to the Rileys," "Where the Wild Things Are," "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3," "Romance & Cigarettes," "The Man Who Wasn't There," "8 MM" and "12 Angry Men."
