The weekend after the 2017 Tony Award nominations are announced, producer and nightclub performer Jamie deRoy will host a celebration of the awards at New York’s Birdland as a benefit for The Actors Fund.
The 6 PM May 7 concert will consist of songs from Tony winners of previous years, a spokesperson told Playbill. Among the guests who will perform them are several Tony Award winners and nominees including Paulo Szot (South Pacific), Chuck Cooper (The Life), Penny Fuller (Sunday in the Park with George, Applause), Mandy Gonzalez (Hamilton, In the Heights), Rupert Holmes (composer of The Mystery of Edwin Drood), and Doreen Montalvo, with special guest, Patti Cohenour (War Paint, The Mystery of Edwin Drood). Barry Kleinbort will direct the one-night-only event with musical direction by Ron Abel and Tom Hubbard on bass.
The concert is being presented as part of the club’s Broadway at Birdland series. Host deRoy has won three Tony Awards, eight MAC Awards, four Backstage Bistro Awards, and 10 Telly Awards for her work on both stage and screen.
The 2017 Tony Award nominations are scheduled to be announced May 2; the awards ceremony is scheduled for June 11.
