Meredith McDonough directs the four-actor musical that has a Tony Award-nominated book by Hunter Bell and a score by Jeff Bowen. The little-musical-that-could premiered Off-Broadway in 2006 and made the move uptown to Broadway's Lyceum Theatre for a brief run in 2008. A cast album preserves the score.
The cast includes Stern (By Jeeves, Little Shop of Horrors) as Hunter, Jordan (Cry-Baby, In My Life) as Susan, Alvin (Nine, Saturday Night Fever) as Heidi and Leonard (My Antonia) as Jeff.
Here's how TheatreWorks bills the production: "In a re-enactment of actual events, Bell and Bowen’s stage personas go from desperately seeking inspiration to realizing that their desperation is itself entertaining material. From showbiz in-jokes to off-hand anecdotes, everything is game in this completely original musical. With help from their fellow theatre geek friends Heidi and Susan, Hunter and Jeff invent a playlist of offbeat but utterly on-target tunes such as 'Awkward Photo Shoot,' 'What Kind of Girl Is She? and 'Die, Vampire, Die!'"
