The new musical adaptation of Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre is seeking several girls, ages 10-12, to play the title character as a child when the show has its world premiere this November at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto.
Children's open call auditions will be held Sept. 21 at Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto. Sign up begins at 9:30 AM. Auditions begin at 10 AM.
The musical begins previews Nov. 14, opens Nov. 22 and runs through Feb. 1. A Broadway transfer is being considered.
Financed by Mirvish Productions of Toronto, the $6 million production has music by Englishman Paul Gordon, composer of pop hits including "Friends and Lovers" and "Next Time I Fall.
The musical will directed by John Caird (co-director of Les Miserables and Nicholas Nickleby). The production stars Anthony Crivello (Kiss of the Spider Woman) as Rochester, and Marla Schaffel (Fantine in Broadway's Les Miserables) as grown-up Jane Eyre.
Production spokesman John Karastamatis said the Broadway transfer would be contingent on finding a suitable theatre -- no easy task in this booking-jammed season.
The Toronto box office for the musical opens Sept. 30. To order tickets or get more information: (1-800) 461-3333.
