The 15th century-set series, which is scheduled to premiere in 2013 on Starz, will be told through the stories of three women who are caught up in the ongoing conflict for the throne during England's Wars of the Roses.
Starz has ordered 10 episodes of the drama, which will star Max Irons (West End's Artist Descending a Staircase) as King Edward IV with Rebecca Ferguson as his bride, Elizabeth Woodville. McTeer will play her sorceress mother.
The cast also includes James Frain (The Homecoming, "True Blood"), Amanda Hale, Faye Marsay and Aneurin Bernard.
McTeer won the Tony Award in 1997 for her performance in A Doll's House and was nominated for Mary Stuart. She has also been seen on Broadway in God of Carnage.
Colin Callender will serve as an executive producer on the series, which is scheduled to film in Bruges, Belgium.
