The Cancer Support Community, the global non-profit that provides vital resources to cancer patients and their caregivers, will honor late Tony Award nominee Marin Mazzie during its spring gala with the presentation of the first-ever Marin Mazzie Award for Empowerment.

The star of Passion, Ragtime, and Bullets Over Broadway passed away of ovarian cancer in September 2018. Mazzie and her husband, Broadway actor Jason Danieley, shared their journey throughout Mazzie’s treatment and were vocal advocates for CSC and its programs.

The award will recognize a member of the entertainment, sports, or media world who uses his or her diagnosis as a platform to advocate for others.

Danieley will be on hand to present the inaugural Marin Mazzie Award for Empowerment at CSC’s April 16 spring celebration. Danieley and Mazzie received the Award for Empowerment in 2016.

Danieley is also participating in the 2019 United Airlines NYC Half Marathon on March 17 in honor of Mazzie. Joining him on Team Marin will be two-time Tony Award nominee Brian d’Arcy James. Click here to support Team Marin.

“Marin and I were drawn to CSC by their mission statement, ‘to ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community’,” Danieley said. “We could think of no better way to share our compassion for others than by assisting CSC in any way we could. This year it is an honor to put 133.1 miles under the treads of my running shoes to raise money to help them continue their great work.”
