Broadway News Javier Muñoz Ends Run in Broadway's Tony-Winning Hamilton January 14 The original company member will be succeeded by Michael Luwoye.

Javier Muñoz plays his final performance in the title role of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning Hamilton January 14 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

Muñoz, who was initially the alternate Hamilton and was involved in the early development of the show, succeeded Miranda in the title role July 11, 2016.


“I’m leaving Hamilton—five years of my life dedicated to this show,” said Muñoz in a Twitter video announcing his departure. “It’s been an amazing adventure,” he continued, teary with emotion. Watch his message below:

Michael Luwoye, recently seen in the title role of the national tour, will take center stage on Broadway beginning January 16.

Luwoye made his Broadway debut as the Hamilton alternate to Muñoz and the understudy for the role of Aaron Burr. He made his New York stage debut in the Off-Broadway transfer of Invisible Thread.

The current Broadway cast of Hamilton also includes Daniel Breaker as Aaron Burr, Lexi Lawson as Eliza Hamilton, Tony winner James Monroe Iglehart as Thomas Jefferson and Marquis de Lafayette, Tony nominee Euan Morton as King George, Mandy Gonzalez as Angelica Schuyler, Joanna A. Jones as Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds, Bryan Terrell Clark as George Washington, J. Quinton Johnson as Hercules Mulligan and James Madison, and Anthony Lee Medina as John Laurens and Philip Hamilton.
