Cabaret & Concert News   Jay Armstrong Johnson to Channel Hocus Pocus in Not So Scary Halloween Party

The On the Town star returns with a second edition of his Halloween night bacchanal.

Jay Armstrong Johnson, who played Chip in the recent Broadway revival of On the Town, will channel Bette Midler’s cult film Hocus Pocus for his cabaret show Jay’s Not So Scary Halloween Party 2017! at Feinstein’s/ 54 Below on Halloween night.

The event is an encore of his sold-out 2016 bacchanal at the same venue. The party will give two performances, at 7 and 9:30 PM October 31. Audience members are encouraged to attend in costume. Prizes will be given for the best costumes.

To play a cast of kooky characters in this supercharged trick-or-treat event, Johnson is promising to bring along his On the Town co-star Alysha Umphress as part of a parade of costumed guest stars, including Major Attaway (Aladdin), Julia Mattison (Godspell), Katie Thompson (Giant), Daniel Quadrino (Wicked), Ben Fankhauser (Newsies), and Kerstin Anderson.

They will be accompanied by an eight-piece band led by Rodney Bush. Johnson warns, “Expect some spooky new tunes and even more surprise guests.”

Johnson’s other Broadway credits include Hands on a Hardbody, Hair, and Catch Me If You Can. He also played Anthony Hope in the New York Philharmonic’s Sweeney Todd , Herman in the Encores! revival of The Most Happy Fella, and the title the role in Candide at New York City Opera. He currently appears on the TV series Quantico.

Feinstein’s/54 Below is located at 254 West 54th Street, beneath Studio 54, in Manhattan. Tickets, which cost $35 to $75 (plus a $25 food/drink minimum), can be ordered here.
