Classic Arts News Jazz Violinist Leif Reck Is Dead at 80 Jazz violinist Leif Reck died on Saturday, September 19, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. He was 80.
The Danish-born Reck settled in Dublin in 1951, where he became a leading performer, appearing regularly on television. In performances there, in London, and on the European continent, he played with such musicians as trumpeter Chet Baker, vocalist Ella Fitzgerald, guitarist Joe Pass, and violinist Stephane Grappelli, his mentor.

After retiring from his children's clothing business, Reck spent his winters in south Florida, where he played with a local group called the Jazz Survivors.
