Jefferson to Appear in Soho Think Tank's Dreamscape, Red-Haired Thomas, in NYC

News   Jefferson to Appear in Soho Think Tank's Dreamscape, Red-Haired Thomas, in NYC

The Obie Award-winning Soho Think Tank (STT) will present Red-Haired Thomas, written by STT artistic director Robert Lyons, March 7-28 at the avant garde-friendly Ohio Theatre in downtown Manhattan.

According to production notes, "Professional gambler Cliff has got it bad. His daughter doesn't need him, his wife might leave him, and his newspaper vender Iftikhar, whose mother country is at war, just might kill him. Witness Cliff's darkly comic, spiraling descent into a paranoid mythology of power-point presentations, rolls of quarters and hostage videos. Can our migraine-plagued redheaded founding father Thomas Jefferson save the day? Enter with caution into a desperation-filled dreamscape, where the sanest inhabitant may be Thomas Jefferson. (With songs.)"

Oliver Butler, co-artistic director of The Debate Society, directs.

The cast includes Danny Beiruti, Alan Benditt, Nicole Raphael, Danielle Skraastad and Peter Sprague.

The design team consists of Nathan Leigh (sound design), Sydney Maresca (costume design) and Mike Riggs (lighting design).

Lyons is the founding artistic director of the Obie Award- winning Soho Think Tank. He is both a writer and director. His New York productions include The Doorman's Double Duty, Creature of the Deep, No Meat No Irony and PR Man, among many others. Other plays include Dream Conspiracy, Bunko, Vater Knows Best and The Naked Anarchist. Commissioned adaptations range from Dostoevsky (The Possessed and The Fever) to Jay McInerney (How it Ended). Director Butler is the co-artistic director of The Debate Society, a Brooklyn-based play-making company. In New York he has directed Cape Disappointment, Hostage Song, The Eaten Heart, The Snow Hen, A Thought About Raya, After, Seduced, Christmas with the Flamingos and Sold Out: The Rock Musical. Butler was the assistant artistic director of The Berkshire Theatre Festival, where he directed The Einstein Project and This Is Our Youth.

Ohio Theatre is located at 66 Wooster Street (between Spring & Broome) in the Soho neighborhood of Manhattan. This may be the final production by Soho Think Tank at the Ohio Theatre.
