Wright, a Tony Award winner for Angels in America, and Hudson, who won the Oscar for her performance in the movie musical "Dreamgirls," will be joined by Jordin Sparks (In the Heights) and Anthony Mackie (A Behanding in Spokane, Drowning Crow). George Tillman Jr. will direct.
The film, penned by Michael Starrbury, follows two inner-city youths who must fend for themselves after their mothers are taken away by the authorities. Production on the State Street Pictures and iDeal Partners film recently began in Brooklyn.
Rachel Cohen and Jana Edelbaum are producing with Bob Teitel and Tillman. Alicia Keys and Susan Lewis are executive producers.
