The replacement cast of Broadway's Tony Award-winning smash, Proof, led by Jennifer Jason Leigh, will continue with the David Auburn play at least through spring 2002, the producers announced. Leigh, playing Catherine, the troubled daughter of a math genius, assumed the role (originated by 2001 Tony Award winner Mary Louise Parker) in September. Joining her were Josh Hamilton (as a suitor) and Seana Kofoed (as her sister). Patrick Tovatt had been with the original cast over the summer (he replaced Larry Bryggman in June). All four cast members extended their contracts to spring 2002 at the Walter Kerr.

Director Daniel Sullivan won the 2001 Best Director Tony for Proof and recreated his vision for the current national tour. The play put Auburn on the map: He won the Tony and the Pulitzer Prize for the work, which is, at turns, a romance, a comedy, a mystery and an aching drama of family dynamics.

Proof opened at the Walter Kerr on Broadway Oct. 24, 2000, following a sold out run at Off-Broadway's Manhattan Theatre Club. The Kerr is at 219 W. 48th Street. For tickets and information, call (212) 239-6200.
