The film, produced by Sony Pictures Animation and Aardman Animations, will also feature the voices of Hugh Grant, Martin Freeman, Imelda Staunton, Salma Hayek, Brian Blessed, Brendan Gleeson and Ashley Jenson.
Peter Lord will direct the animated film with a script by Gideon Dafoe that focuses on a swashbuckling Pirate Captain (Grant) who, while leading his kooky crew, vies for the Pirate of the Year Award against his enemies (Piven, Hayek). The film is set for a release on March 30, 2012.
Piven was seen on Broadway in the revival of David Mamet's Speed-the-Plow. Tennant will soon be appearing in the West End production of William Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing opposite Catherine Tate. Tovey has been seen in The History Boys both on Broadway and the West End, as well the film version.
