The 1979 Jerry Herman flop The Grand Tour arrives on CD for the first time Aug. 20 on the Fynsworth Alley label.

Based on "Jacobowsky and the Colonel," The Grand Tour opened on Broadway on Jan. 11, 1979, and cast Joel Grey as Jacobowsky and Ron Holgate as the Colonel. Others in the company included Florence Lacey, Stephen Vinovich, George Reinholt, Gene Varrone, Chevi Colton, Grace Keagy,Travis Hudson, Jay Stuart, Kenneth Kantor and Mark Waldrop. Featuring a book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble and direction by Gerald Freeman, The Grand Tour played just 61 performances at the Palace Theatre, closing on March 4, 1979.

One of Broadway's most successful composer-lyricists, Jerry Herman's Broadway musicals include Milk and Honey; Hello, Dolly!; Mame; Dear World; Mack & Mabel; La Cage aux Folles and the revues Jerry's Girls and An Evening with Jerry Herman. He also contributed songs to From A to Z and A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine. His newest effort, Miss Spectacular, was recently released on CD.
