From blue-collar beginnings to gold-record status, the story of American pop group The Four Seasons comes to life on Broadway in Jersey Boys. Des McAnuff (700 Sundays, The Who's Tommy) directed the musical which began Oct. 4, 2005, and opened at the August Wilson Theatre Nov. 6. Jersey Boys features music by Bob Gaudio, lyrics by Bob Crewe, and a book by Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice. The production garnered eight Tony Award nominations for stars John Lloyd Young and Christian Hoff, director McAnuff, orchestrator Steve Orich, bookwriters Brickman and Elice, designers Klara Zieglerova (scenic), Howell Binkley (lighting) and for the top prize Best Musical.
The musical has already won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Musical and the Drama League Award for Best New Musical.
