When tragedy strikes, the Broadway community rallies to help; such was the case after the Pulse nightclub shooting—answered with Broadway for Orlando—and such is the case now after Hurricane Harvey devastated Houston and the surrounding areas in Texas.
B'way❤Houston: A Concert To Rebuild Houston's Downtown Theater District will be presented October 9 at Midtown Manhattan’s The Green Room 42 at Yotel. Tickets (priced at $100) are available at TheGreenRoom42.com; the 7 PM concert, featuring a host of Broadway favorites, will also be live-streamed. 100 percent of proceeds will go directly to repairing the theatres damaged in Houston’s downtown theatre district, including The Alley, The Wortham, and the Houston Opera House.
The current lineup of stars includes Ali Stroker, Tony Award winners Jessie Mueller and Nikki M. James, Tony nominees Andy Karl, Orfeh, Tony Yazbeck, Kevin Chamberlin, Michael Arden, and Phillip Boykin, as well as Lesli Margherita, Phoebe Strole, Alex Newell, Kenita Miller, The Skivvies (Lauren Molina & Nick Cearley), and Kate Rockwell. Additional stars will be announced in the coming weeks.
Playbill's Seth Rudetsky will host the event, directed by David Perlow.
B'way❤Houston is produced by Perlow and Spring Awakening alum Ali Stroker, founding artistic director and founding managing director, respectively, of ATTENTIONTheatre, as well as Brooke Singer and Houston natives Kenny and Paula Singer.
Kenny Singer has been a representative of Playbill in the Houston area for over 25 years. The home belonging to him and his wife, Paula, was badly damaged as a result of the storm.
