News Jessie Mueller Lands Starring Role in Sara Bareilles Musical Jessie Mueller, who earned the 2014 Tony Award for her performance in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, will star in the new stage musical adaptation of the 2007 Adrienne Shelly film "Waitress," which features a score by "Brave" and "Love Song" singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, according to the New York Times.

Playbill.com broke the news of the musical in June 2013 when Tony Award-winning producers Barry and Fran Weissler revealed that they were collaborating with their Tony-winning Pippin director Diane Paulus on the new musical to be scored by Bareilles. The Times reports that Mueller will star as a woman trapped in a job she hates whose life changes when she discovers she is pregnant. Kerri Russell originated the role on screen.

The musical is aiming for a 2015-16 premiere at the American Repertory Theater, where Paulus is artistic director. A Broadway run would likely follow.

The Weissler's Tony-winning revival of Pippin premiered at A.R.T. prior to its acclaimed Broadway arrival. They are also attached to the A.R.T. production of The Heart of Robin Hood, which arrives on Broadway this spring at the Marquis Theatre.
