Jessie Mueller, a 2016 Tony nominee for her performance in Waitress, has been out of the show on a pre-scheduled vacation the week of September 11, but will return to the hit musical at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre Tuesday, September 20.

In her absence, the role of Jenna has been played by her understudy, Stephanie Torns.

Theatregoers reached out to Playbill when they saw Torns’ head shot and name appear at the top of the cast billing page in the printed Playbill, inquiring whether Mueller had departed the production. Typically, a paper insert is slipped into a Playbill when understudies go on.

Representatives confirmed to Playbill that Mueller will return to Waitress September 20. During Mueller’s week-long vacation, the show’s producers gave Torns the coveted top billing slot.
