NY Musical Theatre Fest   Jimmy Bennett Replaces Stephen Bogardus in Illyria Concert, Sept. 11

Stephen Bogardus has pulled out of the New York Musical Theatre Festival's Sept. 11 concert of Illyria, according to a show representative. The role of Malvolio will now be played by Jimmy Bennett.

A new musical adapted by Peter Mills and Cara Reichel from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, Illyria will received a one-night-only concert presented by the Prospect Theater Company on Sept. 11 at 7:30 PM at the Lamb's Theater, 130 West 44th Street.

Joining Jimmy Bennett are Jeff Edgerton (Parade, Iron Curtain), Jonathan Groff (Spring Awakening) as Sebastian, Jessica Grové, (Iron Curtain, The Pursuit of Persephone) as Viola, Darren Ritchie (Dracula) as Orsino, Dan Sharkey (Lone Star Love, The Music Man) as Sir Toby, Michael Winther (Songs from an Unmade Bed) as Feste among many other Prospect Theater Company veterans.

Illyria was originally workshopped by Prospect in 2002, and presented for a limited showcase run at the Hudson Guild Theatre. It had its regional premiere in December 2004 at the Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, and is now hoping to return to New York City for a longer run. The September 2006 concert will feature a revised version including new music.

Peter Mills (book, music and lyrics) received 2005 Drama Desk Award nominations for Best Music and Best Orchestrations, the 2003 Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award from the ASCAP Foundation, and received a 2002 grant from the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation. Most recently, he wrote lyrics for the new musical comedy, Iron Curtain (with Stephen Weiner, music, and Susan DiLallo, book). Other recent projects include The Pursuit of Persephone, Lonely Rhymes (a comic song cycle), The Alchemists and The Taxi Cabaret.
