Jo Bonney, director of the current CSC revival of John Osborne's Look Back in Anger, will mount U, the P.S. 122 debut of the Bronx- based theatre company Universes. The show will play Nov 17-21.
Universes is made up of five multi-disciplinary artists, actors Flaco Navaja and Lemon, playwright and director Steven Sapp, lyricist Gamel Abdel Chasten and singer and dancer Mildred Ruiz. With U, the young company has already gotten self-referential; the play examines how these five came to join forces and base themselves as The Point Community Development Corporation in Hunts Point, the Bronx. According to a press release, the group will use "unique vocalizations, soulful songs and physical percussion" to tell their story.
Bonney is best known for her extensive work with solo artists Eric Bogosian and Danny Hoch. With Look Back in Anger, she made a rare excursion into the world of traditional drama.
