She was the first Laurey in Oklahoma! and went on to appear in such other Broadway musicals as Guys & Dolls, Show Boat, High Button Shoes (1947) and Carousel. Now, as reported by Newsday, Joan Roberts will play Daisy in Alfred Uhry's Driving Miss Daisy, Jan. 9-25 at the Jerry & Emily Spiegel Theatre on the Hempstead campus of Long Island's Hofstra University. The show looks at the strained and shifting relationship between an elderly, rich Jewish woman and her black chauffeur. Uhry's next work, The Last Night Of Ballyhoo, won the Best Play Tony and continues its run at Broadway's Helen Hayes Theatre.
