Joanna Ampil, who played Kim in the Australian premiere of Miss Saigon, co-stars with MiG Ayesa in the international premiere of the Tony Award-winning musical The Bridges of Madison County, which begins Nov. 20 in the Philippines.

Ampil stars as Francesca Johnson opposite Ayesa (Rock of Ages, We Will Rock You) as photographer Robert Kincaid. The roles were originated on Broadway by Kelli O'Hara and Steven Pasquale.

Bobby Garcia directs the production for Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group; performances continue through Dec. 6 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in Makati.

 

The cast also includes Carla Guevara-Laforteza in the dual roles of Marian and Chiara, Nino Alejandro as Bud, Emeline Celis-Guinid as Marge, Jamie Wilson as Charile, Bibo Reyes as Michael and Mikkie Bradshaw as Caroline. The ensemble includes Steven Conde, Nel Gomez, Franz Imperial, Yanah Laurel, Abi Sulit and Teetin Villanueva.

It has choreography by Cecile Martinez, musical direction by Ceejay Javier, set design by Faust Peneyra, lighting design by JonJon Villareal, costume design by Eric Pineda, hair and make-up design by Johann dela Fuente and vocal direction by ManMan Angsico.

The Bridges of Madison County has a score by Tony winner Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Honeymoon in Vegas) and a book by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Marsha Norman (The Secret Garden, 'Night Mother).

The romantic musical centers on a brief, four-day love affair between a National Geographic photographer and an Italian-American housewife in 1965 Iowa. Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep starred in the 1995 film adaptation. The stage production and film were based on the best-selling Robert James Waller novel.

The Bridges of Madison County earned two 2014 Tony Awards, for Best Score and Best Orchestrations.
