News Joel Edgerton Joins Cast of Baz Luhrmann's "Great Gatsby" Film Stage and screen actor Joel Edgerton has joined the cast of Baz Luhrmann's upcoming film version of F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby," according to Deadline.com.

Edgerton has signed on to play Tom Buchanan in a cast that includes Carey Mulligan (The Seagull) as Daisy Buchanan, Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, Isla Fisher as Myrtle (Tom's mistress) and Elizabeth Debicki as Jordan Baker.

The Warner Bros. film is based on the classic novel by Fitzgerald about a young, mysterious millionaire during the roaring 20s, Jay Gatsby.

The film is set to be released in 3-D in 2012.

Edgerton was last seen on stage in Sydney Theatre Company's A Streetcar Named Desire opposite Cate Blanchett. After the run with Sydney Theatre Company, the production transferred to the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Among Edgerton's film credits are "King Arthur," "The Thief" and "Acolytes."
