News Joel Fields' How I Fell in Love To Make NYC Bow at Abingdon Theatre Company; Casting Announced The New York premiere of How I Fell in Love, a new romantic comedy by "Ugly Betty" and "Raising the Bar" writer Joel Fields, will begin performances Jan. 21 at the Abingdon Theatre's Dorothy Strelsin Theatre. An official opening is set for Jan. 30.

Jules Ochoa will direct a cast including Mark Doherty, Erik Heger, Polly Lee and Roya Shanks.

The creative team will  comprise scenic designers Wilson Chin and David Arsenault; lighting designer Travis McHale; costume designer Kimberly Matela; and sound designer Ian Wehrle.

According to press notes, "Two lost souls (Erik Heger and Polly Lee) haplessly seek romance as they stumble into adulthood. When they accidentally find their way into each other's lives, they discover that their individual stories may be more intertwined than they could ever have imagined; and they start to question the meaning of fate, friendship, and true love."

In addition to "Ugly Betty" and "Raising the Bar," for which he served as both writer and and producer, respectively, Fields has worked as a writer-producer on the series "Dirt," "Commander in Chief" and "Over There." He received the Abingdon's 2009 Christopher Brian Wolk Award for excellence in playwriting.

Performances will take place Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7 PM, Fridays at 8 PM, Saturdays at 2 and 8 PM and Sundays at 2 PM. The Jan. 30 opening night performance will take place at 5 PM.
