No, he won't be playing a doctor. Grey will appear as an old high school teacher of Dr. Izzie Stevens, played by Katherine Heigl. According to greysanatomynews.com, Joel Grey's character, who appears suddenly and in need of Izzie's help, inspired Izzie to rise beyond her upbringing and move to greater heights when she was a teenager.

Shonda Rhimes, the creator of "Grey's" tells Grey’s Anatomy News that "He was the teacher who convinced Izzie she was more than just a girl from the trailer park."

Joel Grey also recently appeared on Rhimes' other hit television show, "Private Practice," the spinoff of "Grey's Anatomy," as Dr. Alexander Bell.
