Pommerat founded the Compagnie Louis Brouillard in 1990. He served as artist-in-residence at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord in Paris, under the invitation of Peter Brook (2006-10), before becoming associate artist at the Odeon Theater of Europe (2010-13) and the National Theater of Belgium.
Cinderella/Cendrillon premiered Oct. 11, 2011, at the National Theater of Belgium.
In Cinderella/Cendrillon, according to NYTW, "a very young Cendrillon stands at the bedside of her terminally ill mother. Barely able to hear the words of the dying woman, not daring to ask her mother to repeat herself, the young girl becomes obsessed with her mother's final words. This unique and adult take on the classic fairy tale explores the question of 'how does one navigate both the ashes of the past and the concrete realities of the present, while at the same time, embracing the effervescent life of an overflowing and feverish imagination?'"
The scenic and lighting design for Cinderella/Cendrillon is by Eric Soyerm, with costume design by Isabelle Deffin, sound design by François Leymarie, video design by Renaud Rubiana and original music by Antonin Leymarie.
Cinderella/Cendrillon rounds out a season that will also include Fetch Clay, Make Man; What’s It All About? Bacharach Reimagined; and Love and Information. Read more about the season here.
