Golden Globe winner Joely Richardson ("Nip/Tuck," Lady Windermere's Fan) and Cotter Smith (Next Fall, An American Daughter, Burn This) star in the third and final production of MCC Theater's 25th anniversary season, Michael Weller's Side Effects, beginning June 2.

Directed by David Auburn (author of the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning Proof), the two-person play will officially open June 19 at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.

MCC Theater's 2008 hit Fifty Words, which co-starred Norbert Leo Butz and Elizabeth Marvel, culminated in one desperate phone call. Side Effects, according to press notes, is "the story of what happened on the other end of the line. ... Hugh and Lindy's marriage seems picture-perfect, a beacon in their microcosmic Midwestern world of dinner parties and fundraisers. But, behind closed doors — doors they can barely keep shut — they're falling apart and Hugh's rising political star is suddenly imperiled."

The production features scenic design by Beowulf Boritt (a 2011 Tony nominee for The Scottsboro Boys), costume design by Wade LaBoissonniere, lighting design by Jeff Croiter and sound design Scott Killian.

Performances continue through July 3.

Lucille Lortel Theatre is located at 121 Christopher Street. Tickets for Side Effects are available by visiting or by contacting Ticket Central directly at
