News John Houseman Theatre to Close Off-Broadway with Lazer Vaudeville Lazer Vaudeville will become the last show to perform at the John Houseman Theatre before the Off-Broadway venue is demolished in May.

The work directed by Carter Brown and choreographed by Cindy Marvell begins previews Feb. 16 and official opens March 9 for a limited engagement through May 14.

Billed as "Cirque du Soleil meets Laurel and Hardy," "Ringling Brothers meets The Flying Karamazov Brothers" and "Mummenschanz meets MTV," the show features juggling, lasers, magic, classic screwball comedy and technology presented in a modern vaudeville show.

Lazer Vaudeville stars Carter Brown, Cindy Marvell and Nicholas Flair in the show that has toured nationally for nearly 20 years, according to creator Brown. "It's been my dream to bring contemporary vaudeville to the American stage. We are excited to create a brand new show for New York that blends technology and entertainment."

The design team for the New York staging includes Maia Robbins-Zust (set), Cory Simpson (laser) and Jennifer Johanos (costume). Jesse Manno serves as the musical director.

The musical comedy Lone Star Love currently performs at the 18-year-old venue located at 450 West 42nd Street. The space — which has housed such productions as Alfred Uhry's Driving Miss Daisy, a number of Capitol Steps shows and Over the River and Through the Woods — recently presented Puppetry of the Penis, Little Ham, A Very Merry Unauthorized Children's Scientology Pageant, Roulette and Zanna, Don't! Tickets for Lazer Vaudeville at The John Houseman Theater, 450 West 42nd St. (between Ninth and Tenth Ave.) are available by calling (212) 239-6200.
