Presented April 5-7, the evenings are hosted and written by guest artistic director Ted Chapin, head of the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization. The concerts will feature songs from the Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II musicals Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific and more.
Performing the classics will be Tony nominee Dixon (Motown, The Color Purple), Gonzalez (In the Heights, Wicked), Tony nominee Groff (Spring Awakening, "Looking"), Tony nominee Luker (Cinderella, The Music Man) and Soo (Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812).
According to Chapin, "Even I learn things all the time. Take ‘People Will Say We’re In Love’ as an example. At a recent production of Oklahoma! I noticed inner rhymes that I hadn’t paid attention to: ‘...Why do they think up stories that link my name...’ 'Grantin’ your wish, I carved our initials on that tree...’ It’s a tribute to their genius that no matter how well you know their songs, there is always more to uncover about how the work of two distinctively different artists blended together into a unified whole."
Lyrics & Lyricists has also announced casting for Ziegfeld Girl: The Many Faces of Fanny Brice, which will feature Capathia Jenkins, Leslie Kritzer, Faith Prince and Clarke Thorell (May 3-5); as well as Panning for Gold: Great Songs from Flop Shows, which will feature Brent Barrett, Lorna Luft, Christiane Noll, Jessica Lea Patty, Lillias White and Tony Yazbeck (June 1-2).
