To TV viewers, Kathryn Joosten was President Bartlet's faithful and wise secretary, Mrs. Landingham, on TV's "The West Wing."

But on stage in Los Angeles, she's now playing a peppy, pill-poppin' momma in the premiere of Serious Inquiries Only at the Sidewalk Studio March 14-April 14. Opening night of the comedy, penned and directed by D. Paul Thomas (The Presentmen), is March 22.

Serious Inquiries Only is Thomas' love letter to Indiana, the state from which he hails. In the play, a former small town newspaper man (Jeff Allin of Lincoln Center's Everett Beekin) returns to Indiana after living in New York City. He has trouble adjusting back to heartland life, what with his trouble-making daughters (Andrea Proctor and Nicholle Tom), his rabble-rousing wife (Anne Gillespie of "Beverly Hills, 90210") and a good-looking Methodist minister (Corey Nelson).

Designing Serious Inquiries Only are Jeff Crye (sets), Maggie Morgan (costumes) and Bo Leibowitz (sound).

Tickets are $20. The Sidewalk Studio is located at 4150 Riverside Drive in Toluca Lake. For reservations, call (818) 846-3403. – By Christine Ehren
