Jordan Fisher Shares His Rent Memories | Playbill

Video Jordan Fisher Shares His Rent Memories The star of Rent on Fox reveals how he started acting and his reaction to seeing Broadway’s Rent for the first time.

“I always wanted to work on Broadway. That's something I always wanted to do,” Jordan Fisher told Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest on Live With Kelly & Ryan.

The actor did, in fact, appear on Broadway as a replacement for John Laurens/Phililp Schuyler in Hamilton after making a splash as Doody in Grease: Live in 2016. Now, Fisher is preparing for another live musical television event: Rent on Fox, which airs January 27 at 8 PM ET. Fisher will appear alongside his Hamilton co-star Brandon Victor Dixon, who played Aaron Burr during Fisher’s Hamilton run and now takes on the role of Collins for the TV broadcast.

Fisher, who is 25, did not see Rent at Broadway’s Nederlander Theatre, but he did eventually see the original staging. “A friend of mine gave me a bootleg of the show,” he said. “I watched this thing probably six times and fell in love with it and Mark, specifically, the character that I play in the show.”

Fisher compares Hamilton to Rent, saying, “It will resonate in different ways for different generations for years and years. That's the thing with Rent as well, it's a story about love and compassion and accepting people and wading through these tumultuous waters and leaning on one another.”

Fisher also revealed the reason he first started acting as a child in the clip below:
