Classic Arts News   Jos_ van Dam Replaces Anne Sofie von Otter in MET Orchestra Concert on January 30

Bass-baritone Jos_ van Dam will sing a selection of Mahler's R‹ckert Lieder and Mozart's aria Mentre ti lascio with the MET Orchestra on January 30 at Carnegie Hall, the hall announced.

Van Dam replaces soprano Anne Sofie von Otter, who was to have sung Ravel's Sh_h_razade, but withdrew in order to fill in for Lorraine Hunt Lieberson at the ensemble's January 23 performance at Carnegie after Lieberson injured her back. Von Otter was herself a replacement in the January 30 concert for bass-baritone Thomas Quasthoff, who was to sing Schubert lieder, but pulled out because of a scheduling conflict.

The remainder of the program remains, as originally scheduled, the overture to Weber's Der Freisch‹tz, Webern's Symphony, Dvoršk's Symphony No. 8, and Charles Wuorinen's Grand Bamboula. James Levine conducts.
