Josh Hamilton and Seana Kofoed will join Patrick Tovatt and the previously-announced Jennifer Jason Leigh in the cast changeover of the Tony Award-winning smash, Proof, by David Auburn, beginning Sept. 11.
Tovatt currently plays the ill math genius who may have passed both his brilliance and his sickness on to his bright young daughter, Catherine (originated by Tony Award-winner Mary Louise Parker, who exits Sept. 9). Leigh recently played Sally Bowles in Cabaret and stars in the film, "The Anniversary Party."
Hamilton appeared in Off-Broadway's The Waverly Gallery and the Drama Dept.'s sweet summer comedy, Music From a Sparkling Planet. Kofoed's most recent assignment was Warren Leight's Glimmer, Glimmer and Shine at Manhattan Theatre Club, where Proof was born in 2000.
Hamilton plays the nerdy-charming suitor, Hal, originated by Ben Shenkman, and Kofoed plays Catherine brittle-smart sister, Claire, originated by Johanna Day. The entire original cast of Proof (including Larry Bryggman) was Tony nommed, but only Parker won the award.
Performances continue at the Walter Kerr Theatre on Broadway. Daniel Sullivan directs, and also helms the national tour, which begins this fall with a resident preview at Seattle Repertory Theatre.
